PLAYING WITH FIRE
A collaboration between The British Society of Enamellers, The Devon Guild of Craftsmen and the University of the West of England
The British Society of Enamellers and the Devon Guild of Craftsmen are proud to announce a major juried exhibition of contemporary UK enamelling to take place at the Devon Guild in September 2008. This is planned to be the biggest presentation of enamel art to have taken place in the UK. The exhibition will travel to other important venues nationally and possibly internationally.
The aim of this exhibition is to raise the appreciation of enamelling and show the work of the best contemporary enamellers in the UK. A wide range of enamelling will be represented, showing the variety of techniques, both historical and experimental, and the role played by the intentions of the artists. All work submitted will be judged on its merits, from those pieces that are classically enamelled through to those whose strength lies in concept, originality, and investigations into new ways of enamelling.
All enamellers working in the UK are invited to make a submission.
Major prizes will be offered to encourage freshness and innovation. These will include:
· The opportunity to use the large kiln at UWE for a young maker.
· An award from the Devon Guild of Craftsmen.
· A kiln for a new maker from The British Society of Enamellers.
The application should include:
· 6 – 10 digital images of current work, with notes detailing ideas, themes and relevant technical information
· An up to date digital CV
· A digital artist’s statement
· Where possible, images or designs for new pieces yet to be made for the exhibition should be accompanied by notes outlining aims and objectives for the work.
All submissions, both written and visual should be digital: either on disc or emailed.
Please ensure that the images provided are high quality jpegs with a minimum of 300dpi.
The DGC will be in touch with the successful candidates shortly after the selection in mid
October to discuss the maker’s ideas and to give an idea of the volume of work needed.
Deadline: 1 October 2007
