Goldsmiths’ Fair is a prestigious selling event for professional silversmiths and jewellers. Held annually, the Fair is now in its 26th year and we would like to announce that application forms for exhibitors are now ready. Last year the Fair expanded to two weeks and we are pleased to confirm that this year’s Fair will also be a two week event:
Week One: 22nd Sept – 28th Sept 2008
Week Two: 30th Sept – 5th Oct 2008
We will be offering 10 free graduate stands with bursaries, more details in the application form.
For the opportunity to apply for Goldsmiths’ Fair 2008, please request an application form by emailing your name, your postal address and your email address to:

Forms will be emailed back to you. We prefer to send them electronically but if you can only accept a form by post, please tell us when you reply.
Further information about the Fair will be included in the application form
Unless we are requested otherwise, we will automatically add your details to the Goldsmiths’ Company mailing list, or if you are already listed the details you provide will overwrite previous addresses we may have for you.
THE DEADLINE FOR COMPLETED FORMS TO BE RETURNED TO GOLDSMITHS’ IS FRIDAY 29TH FEBRUARY 2008

We would like to invite all members of the BSOE & IVE to view our members’ exhibition at our annual conference at Leicester. Our conference and exhibition is not open to the general public, so this is an opportunity for any BSOE/IVE member who does not know the Guild, to come and get a taste of what we are about, and see some of our members work.

CALL FOR INTEREST
The BSOE are teaming up with the Grace Barrand Gallery for an exhibition which is to be held from the 6th of September through to the 18th of October 2008.
Brief Info:
The exhibition is open to submission from all members, associate & full.
Work will be selected by the committe & gallery staff.
There will be a £30 hanging fee, but the gallery commission is at a reduced rate

Enamel Workshops with Rachel Gogerly
DATES for April 2008
Rachel has been teaching jewellery and enamelling for over twenty years and has been running her own classes at her workshop in Redditch since 2002. The courses provide a relaxed and friendly environment for students of all levels from beginners through to the more experienced, to enjoy learning all with the common aim of building on and improving skills.
Most workshops are one-day programmes. However, courses can also be tailor made for specific requirements for small groups, please enquire for full details.

Learn how to prepare the colours and metal for successful clear results. Wet laying and firing will be demonstrated. Stoning back will also be covered. Finishing will be discussed and tips and trouble-shooting advice will be given. Students can bring along their own work if they wish, sample pieces are available for beginners.

Wet laying and blending enamels to give subtle colour changes will be demonstrated. Stoning back will also be covered. Preparation of colours and metal will also be covered. Students can bring along their own work if they wish, sample pieces are available for beginners.

Enamelling on Silver/Finishing Techniques
This will be a mixed class. The Finishing Techniques section is aimed at advanced students who can bring along a selection of their own work to finish.

Plique-à-jour
Learn the technique of plique-à-jour enamelling; how to prepare colours, apply them and fire to achieve the stained glass window effect. Each step of the process will be demonstrated. Students can bring along their own work if they wish, sample pieces are provided for beginners.

A Visit to JANE MOORE'S Gallery & Shop
All BSOE members who make jewellery are invited to attend this informal workshop.
DATE Sunday 9th March 2008
TIME 11.00am for 11.30am start – finshing around 4pm
VENUE Jane Moore Contemporary Jewellery Gallery, 16 Denby Buildings,
Regent Grove, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, CV32 4NY
Places are limited to 8 and allocated on a first come basis.
COST £6.00. Tea & coffee will be provided but please bring your own packed lunch.
There is free parking for 6 cars and the train station is a 10 minute walk away.
Directions will be sent to participants nearer the time.
Jane Moore has very kindly agreed to talk about her work and describe the stages involved in making her award winning jewellery.
Jane’s latest work is the result of extensive research into the design and application of fine enamel transfers. These patterns are designed on a computer, printed as a transfer, and fired on to a base coat of enamel. This technique has enabled Jane to create intricate patterns and to replicate designs in different colours for batch production.
Jane will show examples of her work and talk through her design process, from sketch book to computer. She will demonstrate the computer programme she uses for creating her photo-etch designs and enamel transfer patterns, and the application of the transfers. Jane will also explain the technical stages involved in making her jewellery.
