Set within the iconic Oxo Tower Wharf on London’s South Bank is a group of exciting independent designers creating and selling innovative, contemporary jewellery. Following the successful partnership of three galleries at Oxo created for the first Coutts London Jewellery Week in 2008, they have linked up with a fourth gallery, Josef Koppmann, recently opened in the Oxo Tower, to create Jewellery4 at OXO, the ultimate London destination for the widest range of contemporary jewellery during London Jewellery Week 2009.

Jewellery4 comprises of:

  • Studio Fusion Gallery at No.1:06 is the first UK applied arts gallery specialising in contemporary enamel, featuring precious metal jewellery and silverware and larger items in copper and steel by leading international artists.
  • The work of Alan Vallis at Oxo at No.2:09 is influenced by foreign travel. The marine theme of his ‘Red Sea’ necklaces and chokers is generated by an interest in diving. The decorative patterns, textures and colours of the Middle East influence his ‘Stacking Rings’ series.
  • Josef Koppmann’s jewellery at No.1:22 combines cool brushed silver, textured gold and vibrant gemstones, to forge clean, well defined lines drawn from urban modern architecture and flowing organic shapes.
  • D’Argent Gallery at No.1:01 showcases a silver, gold and diamond range by its owner, Louise Sherman, in addition to work in varied styles by young, innovative designers.

COLLECTABLES 07-24 May 2009
with a Private View on 7 May from 5.00-8.00pm

Jacqueline Gestetner has had a lifelong love of silverware and jewellery, spending many years identifying and encouraging emerging designers, not least through her annual spring showcase, ‘Jacqueline’s Choice’. Her collection of contemporary design has been built on the guiding principle that commissioning and purchasing silverware and jewellery should be motivated by passion, not with an eye for investment.

For Jacqueline a ‘collectable’ is something that she falls in love with and has to take home an object that enhances daily life with its beauty, fine craftsmanship, elegance, wit – some or all of these qualities. Her silver teapot makes " first thing in the morning" more pleasurable, chocolates are more tempting nestled in one of Adrian Hope's textured silver bowls, and her day is always more fun when she is wearing a tactile ring or necklace.

The common denominator in her selection of this group of artists working in metals is superb craftsmanship, whether using enamel, inlay, surface texture, form or line.

- what will tempt you to collect a "collectable" today?
