CRAFT & DESIGN AWARDS
The Goldsmiths Company are inviting entries for their forthcoming 2008 Craftsmanship and Design Awards. These awards are part of the Goldsmiths' Craft & Design Council's programme to promote excellence amongst all engaged in the Trade. Anyone in the United Kingdom involved in silversmithing, jewellery and the allied crafts may enter.
Deadlines: 23 January for flat work - the 31 January and the 1st February for 3D craft work.

A TALK FOR ASSOCIATE MEMBERS
"Advice on How to become a FULL Member"
WITH JOAN MACKARELL & PENNY DAVIS
DATE Saturday 26th January
TIME 12am – 3pm
VENUE 96 Erlanger Road, London SE14 5TH
COST £6.00. Food will be provided.
Joan MacKarell has kindly offered to host this friendly and informative talk to associate members at her workshop in South London. She will be assisted by Penny Davis. They will give a power point presentation and lead a very friendly discussion about the society’s expectations of its members. This will be a relaxed and informal occasion, and a wonderful opportunity for associate members to learn more about what exactly you need to become a full member. For specific advice, you could bring pieces of your work, sketch books and design development. Joan and Penny will try to help with your application. So if you are thinking of applying, make the most of this unique occasion and the invaluable professional advise on offer.
Joan is a founder member of the Society and senior lecturer at London Metropolitan University. She is co-director of Studio Fusion (contemporary glass on metal gallery) in London, regularly exhibits at Goldsmith’s Fair as well as teaching at West Dean College.
Penny Davis is an executive committee member of the Society. She also teaches at London Metropolitan University and West Dean College. She works for the trade as well as producing her own work.

QEST Craft scholarships
The Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) makes awards ranging from £2,000 to £15,000 to craftsmen and women of all ages to help them further their careers.
Scholarships are awarded to fund further study, training and practical experience for craftsmen and women who want to improve their craft and trade skills. Scholarships may not be used for acquiring equipment, premises or for other business set-up costs.
The deadline for application is the 11th January !
