THE COCKPIT ARTS / NADFAS AWARD 2008
Applications are invited for the Cockpit Arts / NADFAS Award which aims to help a talented designer-maker set up in business for the first time. This Award is worth £2,685 and will contribute towards the cost of renting a studio at Cockpit Arts (Holborn, WC1 or Deptford, SE8) and professional development services for one year.
Priority will be given to designer-makers who are practising a traditional craft requiring skills at risk of dying out. This might include such crafts as paper conservation, building crafts, or conservation of textiles, books or other items.
NADFAS is the National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies. The Association was established in 1968 has now has 90,000 members belonging to over 350 societies worldwide, including over 330 in the UK. NADFAS works towards promoting and preserving the arts through lecture programmes and tours for members; voluntary work to maintain historic buildings; recording churches and their contents, and developing arts programmes for young people. Cockpit Arts at Collect
Cockpit Arts will be introducing outstanding new work by four of its leading jewellers - Jane Adam, Kelvin J Birk, Jacqueline Cullen and Sarah King - at Collect 2008, taking place 25 - 29 January at the V&A.
Collect is an international showcase presented by the British Crafts Council. A selection of the world's leading galleries will be presenting exceptional works by artists covering jewellery, glass, ceramics, silver, fine metalwork, textiles, wood and furniture.

Cockpit Arts supports and promotes the work of artist designer-makers and product designers through all stages of their business development – from first beginnings through to international commercial success. It is the largest creative hub for designer-makers in the UK, housing a total of 165 creative businesses working in a number of disciplines, including fashion, jewellery and interior products, at its two London premises in Holborn, WC1 and Deptford, SE8.
