From Ruth Ball
Hi - just a quick post,
I've been out and about and browsing and have found the following nuggets of information which I thought I'd like to pass on.
I managed to catch the last day of the Le Corbusier exhibition in Liverpool this weekend.
There was all the fascinating architectural work that you would expect of such a landmark show, but in amongst it was also a fine collection of related art & craft works.
I was interested to discover that Corbusier was the son of an engraver & enameller (of watch cases) and on display there were four enamelled steel panels created by Corbusier in the 1960's.
The exhibition moves to the Barbican, London in February and there is a write up and image of one of the panels in this months Crafts (No:216 Jan/Feb09 edition )

Also in the same issue of Crafts is a great review of the "Playing with Fire" Exhibition which is now currently touring.

Additionally, clicking through on my internet travels, I've recently discovered Dorothy Hogg's blog from her residency at the V&A - it's full of interesting stuff ! Including this link, which profiles fascinating engravings for black and white enamelled miniature cases by enamellist/engraver Jean Toutin who worked from 1618 to 1640.

Hope all's well
Let me know if there is anything you would like to add to the blog !
All the very Best,
